Why does google has different date format?

Google a very familiar word (in fact a website :) ). Have any one observed the date or time formats of google and related sites like orkut, youtube, etc... They all follow same time or date format. The general date formats will be like MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YY and for time hh:mm:ss. This format will be followed by all most all the sites, even the data is entered today the todays date will be added in the previous date formats. But Google uses a different terminology based on the time and date of data insertion.

That means if a comment to a video in youtube has been entered, it will be shown as 'the comment is added mm minutes ago' if the comment is entered less than an hour ago and 'the comment is added hh hours ago' if the comment is entered today (i.e within 24 hrs).

All these things are done for achieving the Search engine optimization. which is a technique for making the pages visible to the search engines.
